His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam THIS MORNING conferred the rank insignia of Lieutenant Colonel upon His Royal Highness 920 Major (Udara) Prince 'Abdul Mateen. The Promotion Ceremony took place at the Officers' Mess, Bolkiah Garrison. Accompanying His Majesty was His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office.
Upon arrival at theParade Square, Tower Block, Ministry of Defence, His Majesty was greeted by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Halbi bin Haji Mohammad Yussof, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister of Defence, and Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Muhammad Haszaimi bin Bol Hassan, Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, RBAF.
His Majesty received the Royal Salute and inspected the Guard of Honour. His Majesty then proceeded to the Officers' Mess, Bolkiah Garrison for the conferment of rank insignia. Also present, Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Isteri Anisha Rosnah binti Adam.
The reading of Surah Al-Fatihah was led by Lieutenant Colonel Abdul Mujib bin Japar, Acting Director of the RBAF Religious Directorate, JAMA'AT.
His Majesty conferred the rank insignia of Lieutenant Colonel upon His Royal Highness 920 Major (Udara) Prince 'Abdul Mateen. His Royal Highness is a highly dedicated and professional military officer, commissioned from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, United Kingdom. His Royal Highness is a qualified Royal Brunei Air Force pilot, holding both the Royal Air Force and Royal Brunei Air Force Pilot Badges, and is certified to fly the S70i Blackhawk.
His Majesty also conferred rank promotions upon 18 RBAF officers who were promoted to Lieutenant Colonel/Commander, Royal Brunei Navy. The promotion took effect from 8th of August 2025. Doa Selamat was read by the Acting Director of JAMA'AT.
His Royal Highness joined the Special Forces Regiment on the 28th of October 2019, and completed the All Arms Commando Course at the Commando Training Centre Royal Marines, Lympstone, Devon, United Kingdom in December 2021, earning the Green Beret. His Royal Highness later completed the Advanced Command and Staff Course at the United Kingdom Defence Academy, Shrivenham, in July 2025, further strengthening his professional military education and leadership capabilities as a Senior RBAF Officer.
His Majesty and members of the Royal Family then proceeded for light refreshments.
